Thee is nothing missing. You owe each of your parents £49 and you own £1, but you cannot add up that £1 to your debt like this - you can use the £1 to pay more of your debt, either give it to “mumsy” or dad (or split it), and then your debt is £97.
Or, in other words: See the £100 debt as negative, so actually £-100. If you pay each of your parents (or “parentsies”) £1, you still have £1 in your hand and £-49 at each parent…
(-49)+(-49)=-98 and your £1 makes £-97… which totally makes sense.
